Liturgical Dance Workshops

March 2010 - Youth from Ward 8 Southeast, DC, participated in inspirational dance
classes with professional dancer, Willette Woods.  Classes were held at Ferebee
Hope Recreation Center.
African Dancing and Drumming Workshop Series

February and March 2009 - Youth learned about West African oral traditions and
culture from the Farafina Kan group and In Memory of African Culture dancers and
drummers.  

They also were taught African dance rhythms based on community folklores and
performed their new dance moves at Benning Road Recreation Center in
Northeast, DC.  Additional workshops with United Planning Organization's Youth
Services Division youth were held in April 2009.  Click picture to see more!
Joy of Dance Workshop Series

January 19 - February 19, 2010 - R.E dance instructor, Nana Malaya of the Nubian
Institute, provided dance lessons to youth in Ward 8 South East, DC. After workshop
series, group of girls performed at Ferebee Hope School Auditorium in front of
family and friends.  

This dance project was supported  by the Far Southeast Family Strengthening
Collaborative.  Participants were invited to perform at FSFSC's Community Day at
Thurgood Marshall Public Charter School.
   
   
   
Express Yourself Again" - Youth Poetry Open Mic
April 26, 2007 - Artmosphere Café in Mt. Rainier, MD, co-hosted youth spoken word/
open mic event with Raising Expectations Inc. Featured artist included RhymeCipha
WHUR 96.3 FM Radio Station Site Visit
June 21, 2007 - Youth from MentoringWorks2, Inc., were given a hands-on tour of
Howard University’s WHUR 96.3 FM radio station. They learned about all of WHUR’
s studio departments, such as promotions & marketing, programming, news,
WHUR HD-World, and management.  Youth also had the opportunity to meet
Triscina Grey during her live Midday show and talk On-Air!
