2008 Urban Mental Health Initiative Symposium and PSA Media Campaigns - On Saturday,
November 15th, Raising Expectations Inc. (R.E.), in partnership with the Aalia Group, Inc., a
media and health awareness professional group, held a free public symposium at DCTV
Studios with medical and mental health professionals, social workers, religious leaders, and
more discussing the disparities and stigmas in treatment and access.  R.E. Inc. would like to

2008 Public Arts Building Communities Grant Mural Project - Youth painters along with R.E.
affiliate artists, A/M Radio, completed installation of 2nd mural art work at Ft. Stevens

Humanities, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, our young people came
together to beautify the Brightwood community. The permanent mural art work can be
appreciated 24/7 outside in the recreation center area on 13th and Van Buren Streets, NW.

R.E.'s Mission

Raising Expectations Inc's mission (R.E.) is to instill
cultural integrity, self-empowerment, and discipline
among youth ages 13-22 through instruction in
visual/performing arts and arts apprenticeship
opportunities.  By developing fun-filled cultural arts
activities and positive, uplifting relationships between
youth, parents, and teachers, R.E. aims to bridge the
generational communication gaps and facilitate
solutions-oriented dialogue and interaction.

Focusing on more advanced skills in the
visual/performing arts arenas, Raising Expectations Inc.
workshops and activities.  Workshops range from
wooden sculpture making to the art form of DJ'ing, and
from arts healing methods to salsa lessons.

With a diverse consortium of arts educators in our
consortium (see our
About Us Page), R.E. brings out the
potential of youth and young adults by offering hands-on,
skills-based learning exercises in our arts enrichment
programs.  Implementing a hands-on interactive style,
R.E. workshops and apprenticeships fascinate and
sharpen youth awareness of the discipline and
dedication committed by our arts entrepreneurs in
achieving artistic masterpieces that can change the world
and bring people of diverse backgrounds together!
